Frequently Asked Questions

To UV Tan at Intuitive Sun & Body or any tanning salon in NY State, the state requires you to be 18 years of age.   

If you are under 18 and desire a tan for an event, like prom, or a recital, or a wedding, you can be airbrushed tanned.  

Ages 14 and up can use the Red Light Bed and the Infrared Sauna, and everyone of all ages can use the Himalayan Salt Room. 

NO you do not, UV Tanning and our Red Light Therapy Bed are on a first come first-serve basis.  But do not worry, our beds are 15, 12, or 10 minutes (Red Light Therapy is 20 minutes), so if someone is in the bed you love, feel free to sit and chat with the owner, or try another bed.  I promise the wait is quick.  

We only take appointments for Airbrush Spray Tans, our Infrared Sauna, and the Himalayan Salt Room.  

The answer to this question is hard to pinpoint because no two people have the same amount of pre-existing melanin.  One person may take a month of tanning every other day to develop a good base tan, while another person may only need 4 sessions to develop a base tan.  

Other factors can determine how fast you tan; will you use a lotion? The use of lotions will help achieve a tan faster, than not using a lotion.  Intuitive Sun & Body staff have gone through extensive training with Smart Tan to ensure that everyone who wants to develop a healthy tan does so without any risks to their skin.   Feel free to come into the salon and talk with one of our certified tanning consultants.  **Lotions purchased outside the salon can not be guaranteed, for quality control.  Please Note: while we will allow outside lotions in the salon, you will be prohibited from using our lay down beds, to ensure the integrity of the acrylics.  Lotions sold at ISB are purchased from licensed salon-only distributors.

Session Packages are many tans purchased in advance at discounted prices that can be used at your leisure.  All Session Packages expire one year after the first tan was used.

Because ISB is closed on Mondays, our Unlimited Months are 34 consecutive days of tanning from the first day of use.  (i.e. if you purchase an unlimited month on Nov 20, you can tan once a day, every day until Dec 23th).  Feel free to call us with more questions if you should have. 

Unfortunately, we do not allow splitting, sharing or transferring of tans. We do offer a tanning package to meet everyone’s needs, be sure to have your s/o, sibling, or friend talk to one of our trained tanning consultants to set them up with the best option. 

You may ... BUT

• We suggest not purchasing any skincare from non-reputable retailers.  Keep in mind you are putting this product all over your body, and we (Intuitive Sun & Body) can only guarantee lotion purchased from our salon. 
• You will only be able to use the Stand Up Unit in our salon.  Many tanning lotions that are purchased online are made for outdoor use, contain oils that are very bad for the acrylic that you lay on, and are missing a very important ingredient that builds melanin in a tanning bed.  It can cause the acrylic to cloud and not allow any UV to go through, it can cause microscopic chips and with repeated use can "spider" out (like a rock cracking your windscreen).  

Simply stated, YES you do.  Indoor tanning lotions contain an amino acid called tyrosine, which increases and stimulates the skin's production of melanin.   Bear in mind that dry skin reflects UV light, so if you are not using an indoor tanning lotion, you can be wasting up to 50% of your tanning session!

Side Note: Not ALL tanning lotions are created equal.  Indoor Tanning Lotions sold only to tanning salons, work with both the UV light in our beds and the UV light from the Sun.   Tanning lotions like Hawaiian Tropic, Coppertone, Bain DeSoleil, and even some Australian Gold lotions, contain Mineral Oils and are prohibited in tanning salons because they can damage the acrylic on the bed (the part you lay on), not to mention some contain a sunblock that will block the UV from producing melanin.

Red Light Therapy - 

• Does not require you to prepare, nor do you need anything.  
• We supply towels
• We carry special skin-care products ​​​​​​​for red light treatments, which complement and intensify its action.  
• Our Red Light device is a bed, that you lay on,  You will want to lay in minimal clothing, as you want the light to penetrate your skin.  A bathing suit is fine, as well as just your undergarments, or you can go au naturale.

Infrared Sauna -  

• It is best to dry brush before entering a sauna. It unclogs your pores, making them more receptive to the effects of a sauna. 
• Do not use any oils or lotions before your sauna session, doing so will clog your pores.
• You'll want to bring a water vessel to stay hydrated (we have a water dispenser here).
• You'll want to wear – comfortable loose-fitting clothes, swimsuits, gym shorts, t-shirts or tank tops.  You are in a private room so you can feel free to be au naturale.
• We provide towels for you to sit on, or wrap yourself in, so there is no need to bring towels (unless you want to)
• Bring a book/magazine to read.  We do have a tablet in the sauna that you can use to search YouTube for guided meditation, or relaxing music.

Himalayan Salt Room -  

• Bring in water. Sometimes the salt can cause a mild scratch in your throat.
• As mucous loosens from the salt, you may notice a runny nose or sneezing, have Kleenex handy.
• A book can make time fly.
• Dress comfortably. If you are working on a skin condition, make sure that it is exposed to the air, so salt particles can work their wonders
•  We do not suggest bringing any electronics into the salt room,  The use of electric devices changes the levels of negative ions in the room. It may diminish from the salt healing properties, and the salt can harm your device.

If you are planning to do one, or a few, service(s) and then want to tan, we have clean robes for our clients, so you can go from one service to another without getting fully dressed.
